Los Roques, Venezuela 2020 ~ Hosted Trip~ POSTPONED

I'm going back and I can bring a few friends...

It's no secret that one of my favorite bonefish destinations on the planet is Los Roques, Venezuela. While traveling to this tranquil archipelago has never been without risk, political tensions between the US and Venezuela have risen since the passing of Presidente Hugo Chavez. This has made it slightly uncomfortable for US tourists wishing to visit this beautiful country and its warm inviting people. It has also made it nearly impossible for my friends at Sight Cast to keep their guides and employees fully employed serving their angling guests.

With angler days cut dramatically, this has also affected the fishing in Los Roques. It's gotten better! Little or no pressure on the flats has increased the success rate for anglers from Europe, Canada, and South America. The fish are larger, more plentiful, and a little less timid. All this adds up to I want to go back to Los Roques, soon.

Ironically, I received a WhatsApp phone call from my friend Chris in Caracas the other day. "Jo-el, I have good news! We have arranged visas and flights for anglers coming from the US and we would like you to visit this year so you can bring a group in 2021." Through the phone, I could hear his enthusiasm as he continued. "Things on Los Roques are still the same, very peaceful, but there is no angling pressure. Fishing has been very good for the few clients coming from the UK, but we need more anglers. You Jo-el know this fishery and we have been friends for almost 20 years so you know me. I would never have you come if it wasn't safe. We have the visas and flights, we just need anglers. You come and bring a few anglers to see how it is and you can bring a bigger group next year."

Well, he had me at "Jo-el, I have good news."

All destination angling has some risk, you just need to be smart. I'm excited to be heading back to Los Roques and the many friends I have there and I'm looking forward to sharing this experience with some of you. This is not a trip for first-time bonefishers, nor is this the place for the less adventuresome. This is a trip for seasoned travelers and self-sufficient saltwater anglers. No drama, whiners, or bananas allowed.

I've secured a great tide week so we can fish the pancake flats for tailing bones. The dates are July 25th - 31st. The cost per angler is $4250.00 based on 2 anglers per room/boat and includes a visa, all lodging, food, guiding fishing, and transfers.

International airfare, tips, and bar tab are not included.

What to expect. Comfortable temps and fair weather, first-class accommodations with AC, world-class cuisine, and flats fishing you will dream about the rest of your life. Are you up for that? Call me. 503.850.4397
